The wood for these beautifully aged frames comes from the
walkways over the tidal marshes and mud flats of the San Francisco Bay. These walkways were
built over half a century ago and the wood has been aged by time and the elements but
preserved by the salt.
As the square iron nails attaching the walkways slowly disintegrate with time, some of
the wooden planks fall off and get washed up on the shoreline, where I have been collecting
them with the blessing of the rangers who maintain the baylands parks.
Most wood this old has been ruined by insects and fungus,
but these boards have a unique environment that preserves them so that the aging process
is prolonged. Their age gives the frame a deeply carved surface while the underlying wood
is perfectly preserved, hard and free of decay.
After I have constructed the frames, I carefully clean and
wax the surfaces to keep them protected - these frames will last generations.
Custom sized frames are also sold separately, while supplies lasts.
